Sector Leader Evacuation Procedures

Sector leaders are a group of individuals who are trained in building evacuation procedures and shelter area evacuation procedures, CPR/AED (Automated External Defibrillator), first aid, and the use of fire extinguishers. This training is divided into modules and is ongoing. Occasionally, special topics relating to emergency response and emergency situations are covered. The time frame for this training is approximately twelve hours, conducted over a two-year period. Initial training is more frequent.

The primary role of the sector leader is to assist with building evacuation procedures or shelter area evacuation procedures during fire alarms, tornado warnings, or other circumstances where it may be necessary shelter areas or evacuate the building to designated safe areas. During any emergency, the Campus Police Department assumes the lead role with the sector leaders assisting, if needed.

Sector leaders are not expected to perform any actions they are not trained in, familiar with, or comfortable with. These are voluntary roles, but greatly needed during emergencies. If capable, sector leaders may be asked to manage a situation until Campus Police Department personnel or local authorities arrive on the scene.

In addition to the required training, sector leaders are provided with the necessary equipment to perform their tasks. This equipment includes a clipboard organizer, sector map, vest, walkie-talkie unit, flashlight, and necessary office products.
