What is the Computer Engineering Technology (CET) program at Joliet Junior
College?
The CET program educates students in areas of analog and digital electronics associated with networks and microprocessors/ microcontroller systems.
The student has three options in which to major. These areas focus on advanced studies in software development, networking, or microcontroller system
design. The student will have an opportunity to study complex programmable logic devices (CPLD), programmable logic controllers (PLC), linear
integrated circuits, high reliability soldering and construction. Additionally, student coursework will include mathematics, English and social
science.
Can students transfer to four-year degree programs?
Yes. The Associate of Applied Science degree in this program can transfer to Bachelor of Science in
computer engineering technology or electronics
engineering technology programs at selected universities and colleges. The student interested in transferring should contact the EET adviser for
specific information.
What are the career opportunities?
Computer engineering technicians are employed in a wide area of specialties. In general, a CET may be involved in the design, testing, production, or
maintenance of computer systems and networks, as well as their components. Program
Outcome
CET graduates with an Associate of Applied Science degree from Joliet Junior College will be able to:
Apply the principles of DC/AC circuit analysis, analog and digital electronics and microprocessor fundamentals to the design, testing, production, or
maintenance of electronic device or equipment and their associated components. Demonstrate high reliability soldering techniques for both
surface mounted technology and through-hole components. Write software programs to assist in solving engineering problems for systems associated with microprocessor/microcontroller systems.
Apply electronic measurement techniques to troubleshoot electronic systems.
