The Peer Mentor & Leadership Development program is designed to enhance the educational experience
of minority students at Joliet Junior College. The program is a comprehensive retention initiative designed to target African American, Asian
American, Latino/a, and Native American students in their transition to JJC. Its curriculum is designed to create a friendly and supportive
environment for minority students and their families by connecting them to successful student leaders.
Peer
mentors serve as a resource
and assist incoming minority students with first-year transitional issues by providing support in integrating students into the
college
community. Peer mentors are required to meet with their assigned mentees on a one-on-one basis and attend educational and leadership activities.
Peer Mentor Criteria:
Nominees must be currently enrolled at Joliet Junior College.
Nominees must have a 2.5 GPA.
Nominees must complete a comprehensive training program.
Nominees must be in good standing with the college.
Peer mentor compensation: $250 per semester
