Peer Mentor & Leadership Development Program

The Peer Mentor & Leadership Development program is designed to enhance the educational experience of minority students at Joliet Junior College.  The program is a comprehensive retention initiative designed to target African American, Asian American, Latino/a, and Native American students in their transition to JJC.  Its curriculum is designed to create a friendly and supportive environment for minority students and their families by connecting them to successful student leaders.

Peer mentors serve as a resource and assist incoming minority students  with first-year transitional issues by providing support in integrating students into the college community.  Peer mentors are required to meet with their assigned mentees on a one-on-one basis and attend educational and leadership activities.

Peer Mentor Criteria:

  • Nominees must be currently enrolled at Joliet Junior College.

  • Nominees must have a 2.5 GPA.

  • Nominees must complete a comprehensive training program.

  • Nominees must be in good standing with the college.

  • Peer mentor compensation: $250 per semester
