Fine Arts Department 2008-2009 Theatre Season

The Nerd
By Larry Shue

October 2-5

One of the funniest plays ever written, the action centers on the hilarious dilemma of a young architect who is visited by a man he's never met but who saved his life in Vietnam. The visitor turns out to be an incredibly inept, hopelessly stupid "nerd" who outstays his welcome with a vengeance.

Directed by Tammy Perkins.

Biloxi Blues
By Neil Simon

November 13-16

Winner of the 1985 Tony Award for best play, Biloxi Blues follows young army recruit Eugene Morris Jerome as he experiences boot camp in 1943 in Biloxi, Mississippi. In this comedy by Neil Simon, Eugene and five other enlisted men encounter a demanding drill instructor, attempt to survive army “food,” experience lust and love and, ultimately, become adults.

Directed by Zachary Bloomfield.

Godspell

Book by John-Michael Tebelak
Music and new  lyrics by Stephen Schwartz

February 26-28
& March 1

Godspell, based on the Gospel According to St. Matthew, and featuring a sparkling score by Stephen Schwartz (composer
of Wicked and Pippen), Godspell boasts a string of well-loved songs, including the international hit, “Day By Day.” As the
cast performs, the parables of Jesus Christ comes humanly and heartingly to life. Drawing from various theatrical
traditions, such as clowning, pantomime, charades, acrobatics and vaudeville, Godspell is a groundbreaking and unique
reflection on the life of Jesus, with a message of kindness, tolerance and love. It is one of the biggest off-Broadway and
Broadway successes of all time.

Directed by Nicki Blowers.

The Rimers of Eldritch
By Lanford Wilson

April 23-26

An early work by Pulitzer Prize-winner Lanford Wilson, The Rimers of Eldritch appears to be a simple mystery. Using a mosaic of scenes from the past and present, Wilson does much more, however, than simply reveal a murderer. He closely examines the fabric of life in the tiny, Midwestern village of Eldritch, gradually exposing the lies and secrets of its residents. Winner of the Vernon Rice Award, this off-Broadway success is an eloquent, insightful examination of small town Americana.

Directed by Clay Kirkland.
