The Joliet Junior College Fine Arts Department presents Getting Out by the Pulitzer Prize winning author Marsha Norman. This production
will be held in the Fine Arts Theatre located on the Joliet Junior College Main Campus in “K” Building. Getting Out will be performed
November 10 at 7:30 p.m., November 11 and 12 at 8:00 p.m. and November 13 at 2:30 p.m.
Getting Out probes into the past and present of a young woman attempting to find her way in life after release from prison. Marsha Norman
wrote Getting Out after a suggestion by Jon Jory, a theatre director, who asked her to write a play for the Actor’s Theater in Louisville,
KY. She drew on her experience working with disturbed adolescents at Kentucky Central State Hospital to help shape this play. Getting Out
was voted the best new play produced by a regional theatre by the American Theatre Critics Association in 1977.
This production features Rachel K. J. Glim of New Lenox, Michelle Sheilds of Wilmington, Ryan Dunn of Lockport, Mark Wietting of Channahon, Jacob
Welch of Joliet, Nathan Martin of Kinsman,
Andrew Bender and Jaime Vargas of Crest Hill, Kim Koukas of Reddick, Amanda M. Stechly of Manhattan, Jonathon Daniel Steinbach of Lockport,
and Samantha Pastorik of Marseilles. Kathryn Knorr of Braidwood will serve as the Stage Manager with Nadia Hatter of
Lockport assisting. Theatre Manager Nicki Blowers will direct.
Ticket prices are $5 for the general public and $4 for senior citizens. Discounts are available for students and JJC faculty/staff. Reservations
may be made by calling the theatre office at 815-280-2200. As part of the college’s ongoing community service project, audience members are
encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to the production where they may be exchanged for items at the concession table. All contributions
will be donated to area shelters. Please note that this play has mature themes and language and is not recommended for children.
