Joliet Junior College Theatre closed its 2005-06 season with a production of Martin Sherman’s Bent on April 6-9, 2006. Tony-nominated for Best Play in 1980, Bent is set in 1930’s Germany and focuses on Nazi oppression of the gay community. The production was directed by Clay Kirkland, Professor of Theatre and Speech. “Bent asks each of us, regardless of sexual orientation, to contemplate how far we would go to survive,” stated Kirkland. “Just how important is self-respect and pride to human existence?” The cast included Nathan Martin of Kinsman as Max, Kevin Schaefer of Frankfort as Horst, and James Polack of Joliet as Rudy. Other cast members included Rodolfo Ulloa, Jacob Welch, David Luecht, Cornelius Williams, Jaime Vargas, and Dan Austin, all of Joliet; Dustin Guest of Homer Glen; Cody Gierot of New Lenox; Matt Dodge of Channahon; and Jordan Bain of Wilmington. Katey Knutson of Joliet was the stage manager, while Cassie Mallady and Kayla Yost served as assistant stage managers. Bent contains mature themes and language and is not recommended for children. |
