New music majors and students enrolling in applied music courses for the first time at Joliet Junior College must audition on
their instrument(s) to insure placement in the appropriate level of applied music. Auditions for summer will be held on Friday, May 9th, and Fall auditions will be Tuesday, August
19th. All auditions will be in the Fine Arts Theatre, K-1000. Audition appointments may be scheduled by contacting the Fine Arts office at (815) 280-2223.
A. Wind Instruments
- Perform major scales and demonstrate an understanding of
minor scales.
- Perform an exercise or etude from any standard method work.
- Perform a solo of moderate to difficult ability level.
- Sight read.
B. Voice
- Sing two contrasting works of appropriate difficulty. An
accompanist will be provided or you may provide your own.
- Demonstrate a basic proficiency in aural skills and vocal
production.
- Sight read.
C. Percussion: Students
may audition on snare drum, mallets, timpani, or multiple percussion.
- Perform major scales and demonstrate an understanding of minor
scales.
- Perform a solo or etude of moderate to difficult ability level.
- Exhibit proficiency in rudiments (snare drum).
- Sight read.
D. Piano
- Perform major scales and demonstrate an understanding of minor
scales.
- Perform two compositions (two- or three-part invention, prelude and
fugue, suite, work of Haydn, Mozart or Beethoven, or a nineteenth or twentieth century composition).
- Sight read.
E. Guitar/Bass
- Perform major scales and demonstrate an understanding of minor
scales.
- Perform two compositions demonstrating various techniques.
- Sight read.
Dress: Audition/Jury/Recital
Attire is semi-formal:
NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS WILL BE MADE.
Women: dresses only
Men: Suit or sport jacket with shirt and tie
Students
in inappropriate attire will not be allowed to perform. Appropriate dress is a sign of respect for an audience, as well as for the music being performed, and contributes to a professional presentation.
