Bonnie Johansen-Werner is a freelance musician in Joliet, Illinois where she teaches piano, voice, and composition in her private studio. She also
teaches music theory, sight-singing and ear training at the University of St. Francis and teaches voice at Joliet Junior College. Ms.
Johansen-Werner’s voice teachers include Ruth Holmen Taylor, Willard Thomen, and Karen Brunssen. Her composition teachers include Richard Hillert,
Carl Schalk, and Alice Parker. Bonnie publishes with The United Methodist Publishing House, Alliance Publications, and Darcey Press. Ms. Johansen-Werner is a member of ASCAP, the American Composers Forum, the Iowa Composers Federation, the Chicago Composers Forum, the Illinois Association of Teachers of Music, the National Guild of Piano Teachers (American College of Musicians), and the Fellowship of United Methodists in Music and Worship Arts. She is a Colleague in the American Guild of Organists (CAGO) and a member of the Fox Valley AGO chapter. Bonnie is a
Diaconal Minister in The United Methodist Church. She writes a bimonthly column for Worship Arts magazine, the journal of The Fellowship of United
Methodists in Music and Worship Arts. Her compositions are primarily for choirs, vocal solo, and organ. Her most recent work, “Variations on
‘Antioch’” for organ, is scheduled for release in 2006. Her most recent commission, “Magnificat” for choir, soprano solo, organ, trumpet, timpani,
and cymbals, is scheduled for performance at the Decorah (Iowa) United Methodist Church |
