Catalog Description
An introduction to Adobe Photoshop,
an image-editing program that makes it possible to produce high-quality digital
images and manipulate scanned images as well as outputting color separations
and halftones. Student will be introduced to the tools and
capabilities of the Photoshop program and will learn all the important fundamental
concepts and features needed to master the program.
Course Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student
will be able to:
1. Organize
artwork in layers; rearrange layers; change opacity and mode; link layers; add
a gradient.
2. Paint and
fill images with color; erase; use custom brushes, airbrushing and smudging;
create soft-edged effects; paint with texture.
3. Use the
marquee tools, magic wand, lasso, and the pen tool, and filters.
4. Prepare
images for distribution on the web.
5. Prepare
images for two-color printing.

Objectives:
The student will:
1.
Open and save
files in Adobe PhotoShop; organize artwork on separate layers; use the type
tool; paint, retouch.
2.
Select with the
rectangular marquee tool, the elliptical marquee tool, magic wand, and the
lasso; move a selection.
3.
Organize artwork
in layers; rearrange layers; change opacity and mode; link layers; add a
gradient.
4.
Paint and fill
images with color; erase; use custom brushes, airbrushing and smudging; create
gradients and soft-edged effects. Paint with texture.
5.
Create, edit, and
save a quick mask[ACT1].
6.
Acquire, resize
and retouch a photo intended for a print layout.
7.
Use the pen tool.
8.
Create layer
masks, clipping groups, and adjustment layers.
9.
Use filters to
alter images; use adjustment layers and painting modes to vary the look of the
artwork.
10.
Add a graphic
created in a draw program to an Adobe Photoshop file and export the artwork
back for use in the graphics program.
11.
Prepare images
for distribution on the Web.
12.
Prepare images
for two-color printing.
13.
Understand how
images are prepared for printing on-press. Ensure and print accurate color.
