Catalog Description
For the student interested in desktop publishing, this
course introduces the features of QuarkXPress,
including the basic structure and interface of the program, type and
typography, copy flow, manipulating pictures and color, and using macros and
scripts. The student will learn power
tips and techniques that relate to the very core of the program while producing
various publications.
Course Objectives:
Upon completion of the course, the student will be
able to:
1. Create
picture boxes and rules; import and modify graphics.
2. Create,
resize, and reposition text boxes; import text boxes.
3. Apply
colors to frames, backgrounds, and text; apply color to halftones; print
separations.
4. Use the
pasteboard; link text boxes; layer objects.
5. Customize
templates; use object linking and embedding; insert tagged text and jump lines;
update fonts and pictures.

OBJECTIVES
The student will:
1. Create, save, and print a document in QuarkXPress; create picture boxes and rules; import and modify graphics.
2. Create, resize, and reposition text boxes; import text boxes; apply character and paragraph formatting.
3. Reproduce color documents; apply colors to frames, backgrounds, and text; apply color to halftones; print separations.
4. Use the pasteboard; link text boxes; layer objects.
5. Fine tune character aesthetics; create and apply style sheets; align columns.
6. Create master pages and templates.
7. Customize a template; use object linking and embedding; insert tagged text and jump lines.
8. Change the contrast of black-and-white photographs; define halftone screens.
9. Update fonts and pictures.
