Romeoville, IL 60446
As an early contributor to e-learning, Cisco Systems Inc. first initiated a program to design practical,
cost-effective networks for schools in 1993. In 1997, the Cisco Networking Academy
was established
with 64 educational institutions in seven states. Today, the Networking Academy has spread to more than 145 countries and all 50 U.S. states.
Over 260,000 students have enrolled at more than 9,800 academies.
Joliet Junior College began its partnership with Cisco in 1999 when faculty
members James King and Mike Fagan became trained and certified to teach the
Cisco Certified Networking Associate (CCNA) certification program. Jim and Mike created the program at JJC by incorporating Cisco's CCNA program
within an A.A.S. degree in computer networking technology (CNT). In the last year, the degree requirements have
been changed to include Cisco's CCNP program as well.
The Cisco Networking Academy is part of the JJC
Computer Information Office Systems Department (CIOS). Ram Raghuraman is CIOS chair. Bill Stroud and Adolph Scheiwe are CIOS advisers.
