Purpose
This competitive event encourages high school student teams to consider starting a business as a career choice or
employment. It also gives students the opportunity to explore the basic steps entrepreneurs take when starting a business.
During the contest, students become familiar with city, state, and national
business resources like: Chambers of Commerce, state health departments, and federal agencies such as the Small Business Administration (SBA).
They also will learn about the real world of business through conversations with business owners and
educators in their community. High school student teams from all over the JJC
district develop an actual business plan for a new business idea. The
process is designed to:
- Provide students with hands-on, professional business experience through which classroom concepts and
theories can be applied and tested;
- Enhance general understanding of the importance of marketing and business
and how it's necessary to the future health of the local
economy;
- Promote business education by supporting a high quality curriculum throughout area secondary schools.
