Adult Basic Education (ABE)
The Adult Basic Education program (ABE) is designed for out-of-school youth and adults ages 16-and-over with basic education skills below the
eighth grade level. Classes are for students identified with having problems with reading, writing, math and problem-solving, as well as
students with special learning needs including limited English proficiency. Students are individually assessed from basic literacy to the
eighth-grade level, and monitored for progress.Pre-GED Skills
The Pre-GED program is for adults who do not a have a high school diploma and who need to refine their skills in reading, spelling, English
grammar, writing, math, or problem solving. Many adults begin their GED preparation in the Pre-GED program. Courses are offered in a
traditional classroom or multimedia center setting. Classes meet from four to 12 hours per week. Most students repeat their ABE/ Pre-GED
course three times to achieve the course objectives and prepare for the GED preparation exam.
