Club InformationActivities![]() Latinos Unidos - The ConstitutionArticle One - Club Name and Mission StatementThe mission of Latinos Unidos is to share our history, culture, and goals with one another through education and leadership. The main focus is to unite and collaborate with the diverse cultures present at Joliet Junior College. Emphasis is also placed on enriching the college experience through campus activities and community involvement. Through group experiences we master cultural and personal challenges in a multicultural society, leading to increased growth and understanding.Article Two - MembershipSection I - This club shall be a student run club with co- advisor guidance and is open to Joliet Junior College students who are willing to explore and share Hispanic culture. Members are required to fill out an application, attend mandatory meetings, participate/ organize club activities, and attend at least one leadership session a year. Each member will earn points for attending meetings, participate/ organize club activities, and attending leadership session.Section II - All members are entitled to their ethnicity and are expected to respect other cultural groups. Section III - Membership of this club can be revoked based on lack of attendance, non- participation, lack of respect for the club members. Revocation will be voted on by any of the members or officers upon recommendation by two or more club members. An exclusive meeting will take place concerning the revocation of a club member. If a member is revoked from the club he/ she will be able to appeal, members and advisor will review the appeal. Article Three - MeetingsSection I - Meetings are held once a week for an hour on the bridge or appropriate space depending on possible interruptions. Members with class have permission to leave when needed. Officer Meetings will take place once a week at a time and place convenient to most officers.Section II - Members are expected to attend meetings schedules in article three section one. Officers/ Advisors determine schedule of meetings. Section III - Issues requiring membership vote proposals need a simple majority rule to be passed. Article Four - Club PositionsSection I - The officer/non officer positions of Latinos Unidos include:
Section II - Duties President: will preside over meetings and assist other officers with their duties. Vice President: will preside over meetings in absence of the President and also assist other officers with their duties. Shall keep points systems updated. Secretary: shall keep attendance, minutes, prepare and send mailings. In addition he or she shall keep contact information updated and on file. Type agenda and distribute through meetings and listserv. Treasurer: is responsible for maintaining club financial records, and the collection of money and it's deposit. Also the completion of all financial forms. As well as writing letters to outside contacts that contribute to the club. Historian: is responsible of collection of the history of the club to date. Which includes keeping record of all events, updating the club pamphlet, and keeping information on each event, which includes pictures, flyers, handouts, and etc… Event Coordinator (s): is in charge of coordinating events and activities, as well as organizing committees, supervising the productivity of committees. Liaison: has the responsibility of networking with other clubs, schools and the community. In addition of recruiting new members and working with the secretary to invite outside contacts and other schools. Advisor's: roles are listed on page five and six of the OSA survival guide. Elder: must have been an active member for more than a year and have held an officer position for a year. Elders are looked upon for advice and help from members and officers of the club. They are also able to vote. Brothers and Sisters: are past members of the club who no longer attend Joliet Junior College. They are looked upon for any guidance from members and officers of the club. Friends: are any persons or organizations that have in any way or form contributed more than once to the club. They should be recognized by certificate every year or event whatever seems suitable. Article Five - Electing, Appointing, and Removing OfficersSection I - a simple majority elects the officer. Officers must be Joliet Junior College students and be nominated/elected by club members. Candidates shall make their presentations at a regular schedule club meeting. The term of office for these positions except for H, J, K, and I are from the beginning of summer semester to the end of the spring semester.Section II - If an officer is unable to fulfill his or her responsibilities; the vacancy will be filled by the following chain of command:
Section IV - A person can be removed from office based on their performance. Recommendation for removal from office will be decided by a simple majority vote of the officers, and elders. However, the officer can appeal to the Director of OSA. Article Six - Standards of BehaviorSection I - The students who are officers and members of Latinos Unidos are expected to adhere to Joliet Junior College Code of conduct when in attendance at meetings, events, or field trips. In addition, members are expected to remember that they are representative of the college and should behave accordingly.Section II - In the event that a member of Latinos Unidos violates the Joliet Junior College Code of Conduct while conducting club business, the club will issue a written warning. If a second offense occurs, the club will refer the offender directly to the judicial process of the Code of Conduct. Article Seven- Point SystemSection I- Students will be given points for attendance and participation in club activities. The point system entitles students to paid trips."Sixty-five to a hundred percent of participation entitles students to a free field trip." "Members with thirty-five to Sixty-four points will pay a twenty-five percent fee of the field trips." "Students with less than thirty-five percent of participation will pay for their trip." Section II - At any event, students must sign in or report their presence to the vice-president. No assumptions of presence will be made. If students do not report to vice-president, the points will not be rewarded. Article Eight - Amendment ProcessAmendments to this constitution may be proposed by an announcement at general meetings Adoption of these amendments occurs with simple majority vote.Article Nine - RatificationThe constitution will be ratified by a simple majority vote. It will be reviewed and revised as needed. |
