The 2009 season will be Wayne King's 23rd season as Head
Baseball Coach at Joliet Junior College. The
2008 season was a memorable one for the Joliet Junior College baseball
team. With a 9-0 victory over Gloucester Community College (NJ), the
Wolves claimed the NJCAA Division III World Series Championship in
Tyler, TX. JJC earned the N4C conference championship, Region IV
championship, and the District B championship on the road to the World
Series. The 2008 squad broke the school record for wins finishing with a
stellar 49-11 overall record.
For King's efforts in 2008, he was named the NJCAA
Division III, District B, Region IV, and N4C Coach of the Year. His 762
career victories are the most in school history at JJC.
Two of King's players on the 2008 team received big
dividends for their hard work. Shortstop Ed Koncel was named a 3rd team
All-American, MVP of the N4C conference, and a 1st team all-region
selection. He was drafted in the 2008 MLB draft in the 13th round by the
Texas Rangers. He played for the Spokane Indians baseball club for the
2008 summer season where they captured the Northwest League
Championship. Outfielder Brandon Howard was named ABCA Division III
Player of the Year, which no other player during Coach King's tenure has
ever been selected. He earned 1st team All-American, World Series
all-tournament, all-district, and Region IV MVP awards. He also set an
NJCAA Division III record with 105 hits.
King has guided his teams to eight national
tournaments, twelve NJCAA Region IV titles and five North Central Community College championships. With 49
wins in 2008, that marked the 19th straight season the Wolves have
posted 30 or more victories in a season. The Wolves coaching staff has
produced 30 All-Americans and over 170 of the players have gone on to
play at four-year colleges.
Coach King played three sports (football, basketball,
baseball) at Beaver Local High School in East Liverpool, Ohio. He
continued his baseball career at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio where
he earned his bachelor's and master's degrees.
King and his wife, Janine have been married for 26
years and have two children, Stacey, and elementary school teacher and
son Kelsey, a computer specialist. The King's also have two
granddaughters.

Gregg Braun

Gregg is in his
first year at Joliet Junior College. He spent the last two years as the
assistant varsity baseball coach at his alma mater, Providence Catholic
High School in New Lenox, IL where he coached under former long time JJC
assistant baseball coach, Mark Smith. Gregg also coached football at
Providence, coaching the secondary on the sophomore level. Prior to
coaching at Providence, he spent one year at Romeoville High School as
an assistant varsity baseball coach and a year at Lemont High School
where he was a freshman assistant coach.
Gregg attended
Providence Catholic High School, where he was an all-area catcher on the
baseball field and played free safety on the gridiron for the Celtics.
Gregg helped lead the Celtics in football to the final two of four
straight IHSA State Championships in 1996 and 1997. He then continued
his football career at Butler University in Indianapolis, IN. Gregg
lettered for the Bulldogs in 2000 and 2001, playing free safety for them
as well. He earned his bachelor of science degree with a major in
telecommunication arts and a minor in journalism.
Gregg is a
full-time staff member at Joliet Junior College. He splits his time
between the athletic department and admissions, where he serves as a
recruitment specialist. Prior to JJC, Gregg spent the past five years
working in the marketing and community relations fields. He and his wife
Erin reside in Orland Hills, IL. |

Jim Radak

The 2009 season will be Jim Radak’s sixth year of coaching at
Joliet Junior College. Radak has coached summer league baseball for the
American Legion level for the last nine years. Radak played baseball at
St. Joseph’s High School and has played softball in Cicero, Berwyn, and
Chicago for ten years.
Off the field, Radak has been employed in the field of parks and
recreation for the past 28 years. Radak has one son, Andy, who played for
the Wolves in 2002 and 2003. |

Mark Marino

The 2009 season will be Mark's second as an assistant coach
for Joliet Junior College baseball. He works primarily with the
outfielders. Mark spent four years
as an assistant coach at the College of DuPage where he worked with the
outfielders, handled recruitment responsibilities, provided assistance
to student-athletes with their four-year college/university selection
and placement, and handled scouting duties as well as other game
preparatory work.
Mark is a graduate of Aurora University where he
earned his bachelor of arts degree in physical education. He plans to
complete his masters of education degree in athletic administration.
